The number of infected in Italy

Lombardy has become the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the country. Coronavirus in Italy is actively spreading today. As of March 19, 41,035 people have been diagnosed with the disease. The head of the Civil Defense Department reports that the number of cases increased by 4,480 in a day. The number of deaths is 3,405.

What is happening in the country's hospitals?

March 12, there were 15113 infected with coronavirus. 1258 people managed to recover. Doctors say that this is the fastest rate of spread of the virus worldwide. The main focus of the infection at that time was Lombardy. Regional Health Secretary Giulio Gallera announces up to 400 new hospitalizations per day. Equipment, beds and medical staff were no longer sufficient for new patients. This is due to the fact that doctors are also infected with the coronavirus. Among the patients, 12 percent of the medical staff.

Doctors say about the growth in the number of patients with a geometric progression. Most patients are admitted with bilateral pneumonia, and there are not enough mechanical ventilation devices. Some doctors stay to live in hospitals so as not to expose the family to the risk of infection.

On March 6, the Italian Society of Anesthesiology, Intensive Care and Resuscitation issued recommendations on an action plan for the lack of resources for treatment. In accordance with them, with a large influx of patients, doctors should only deal with people with the greatest chances of life. A health worker of one of the patients said that in some cases, older people with serious chronic diseases are not resuscitated.

Quarantine measures in Italy in connection with the coronavirus

In connection with the rapid spread of the coronavirus, the Italian authorities have taken drastic measures. The restrictions affected mainly the tourism sector. The owners of all hotels and inns do not accept guests.

On March 9, Giuseppe Conte, Prime Minister of Italy, announced the closure of the entire country for quarantine. Funerals, weddings and other public events, as well as sporting events are prohibited in Italy. In accordance with the innovations in the country, the work of discos, gyms, theaters, pubs, cinemas is prohibited. Until April 3, quarantine was announced in schools and higher educational institutions.

The Prime Minister said the restrictions in the country were adopted to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. They came into effect on March 10, 2020. The coronavirus has made its way into prisons in Italy. In Modem, three prisoners died from the coronavirus. The death of three more was ascertained after the transfer of prisoners to another prison. Most of the prisoners rebelled. But, doctors found that at least two prisoners died from an overdose of methadone, which they stole from the prison infirmary.

After banning relatives from visiting prisoners in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the San Vittore prison, they set fire to the building and climbed onto the roof. During a riot in the places of deprivation of liberty in the city of Foggia, 20 prisoners managed to escape. Most of them were soon arrested.

The country's authorities said that if the quarantine is violated, citizens face severe punishment in the form of a fine of 260 euros or three months in prison.

Giuseppe Conto, in his speech, noted that the quarantine measures taken are necessary to stop the spread of coronavirus. It is possible to stabilize the situation in the country only with the joint efforts of all citizens. Travel within the country is only allowed for work or urgent family events. During a trip, a person can be stopped by the police and demand documents that confirm its urgency.

The Prime Minister said that the country needs to ensure continuous production and the ability for people to go to work, so public transport will operate as usual. Cafes and restaurants are allowed to work in the country from 6 am to 6 pm. But, the owners must arrange the tables so that the distance between visitors is at least one meter.

The Prime Minister of Italy calls on all his citizens to stay at home and not to go out unless necessary.

Why did so many people get infected in Italy and so many died?

To date, Italy occupies a leading position in terms of the number of people infected with coronavirus and deaths. Experts do not give an unambiguous answer about the reasons for the rapid spread of the virus in the country. The main reason for the high incidence is called the delay in closing the borders, as the infected Chinese constantly flew to Italy.

Epidemiologists believe that the climate also contributes to the spread of the coronavirus. They say that cases of infection are rare in the northern regions. Some people accuse the country's authorities of allowing a large number of cases, as they delayed the adoption of quarantine measures. Despite such a large number of people, public transport operates in the country, as well as cafes, bars, restaurants, while in countries with isolated cases of infection, complete isolation of people has been ensured.

Coronavirus in the country is gaining momentum in the distribution. Italy is in first place in terms of the number of deaths, which requires the adoption of drastic measures.
