On March 12, Ukraine went into quarantine due to the coronavirus, the pandemic of which swept the whole world. One of the most affected cities was the capital of Ukraine. The article describes the features of the situation with coronavirus and quarantine in Kyiv.
How many patients with coronavirus in Kyiv?
Kyiv became one of the first cities where a patient with a new COVID-19 was found. This is not surprising, since he, as the capital, attracted foreign tourists from all over Ukraine. Plus, the people of Kiev travel abroad quite often, which also increased the risk of a large number of patients.
Today Kyiv is one of the epicenters of the epidemic in Ukraine. If there are 759 cases of diseases in the Chernivtsi region, then in the city of Kyiv alone, the number of cases of coronavirus is 705, which makes it the most infected city in the country (the information is current as of 10:00 04/17/2020). The number of infected in Kyiv is 15% of all cases of diseases in Ukraine.
Where are patients with coronavirus treated in Kyiv?
Mayor Vitali Klitschko identified a number of hospitals for the treatment of patients with coronavirus, including infectious diseases, which he personally visited in order to check the conditions. Initially, the following hospitals were allocated:
- Alexander Hospital;
- Kyiv City Hospital No. 4;
- Kyiv City Hospital No. 9;
- children's clinical infectious diseases hospital;
- maternity hospital No. 3;
- maternity hospital number 5.
From the outset, it was determined that additional hospitals to receive the "second wave of cases" would open when more than 50% of the beds in the first six were occupied. Recently, places have been designated where the “second wave” will be treated. These include: the Oleksandrivska Clinical Hospital, as well as Kiev City Hospitals No. 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 17. At the moment, they are working on equipping and providing protective equipment for the second line of clinics, and accepting patients from the clinics of the first lines.
On the territory of the "first wave" there are temporary points for screening and triage of patients, where all persons with symptoms of respiratory diseases are checked. Since the number of hospital beds is limited, Ukrainians who carry the coronavirus in a mild form are sent home to be treated. Hospitalization, in accordance with the protocols, is subject to those patients who require constant medical supervision.
List of restrictions related to quarantine
In Kyiv, the same restrictions apply as throughout the country. There have been several waves of increased quarantine measures, the latest of which occurred on April 6.
On March 12, schools were quarantined, and then all universities in Kyiv were quarantined. On March 17, they announced the closure of the metro, and from April 6, they introduced a ban on going out into public places without masks and identity documents. People over 60 years old cannot go further than 2 kilometers from their home, and children under 14 years old cannot go out unaccompanied by adults. It is also forbidden to move in the company of more than two people, except for cases of accompanying children and walking dogs by more than one person.
Urban transport practically does not work: entry into it is carried out only if there is a special certificate from the workplace, which allows moving around the city. The entrance to the city is also closed for cars without Kyiv registration, or if the people traveling in it are not registered in Kyiv.
It is also forbidden to leave the places of self-isolation without permission, visit forests, coastal areas, parks, playgrounds, except for dog walking and business needs.
What is open and what is closed in Kyiv?
Quarantine measures have banned almost all types of leisure activities and suspended the activities of business entities. Only essential facilities operate. Work:
- grocery stores and supermarkets;
- stores selling hygiene and electronics items;
- banking institution;
- hospitals and pharmacies;
- dental offices accept emergency patients;
- postal services;
- takeaway restaurants;
- courts - but they work with restrictions, most of the meetings are held without the participation of the parties or online.
Closed until the end of quarantine:
- restaurants, bars, coffee houses, discos, night clubs;
- entertainment centers and cinemas;
- gyms, fitness clubs;
- centers for the provision of administrative services and other government agencies (work online);
- schools, universities, kindergartens and educational institutions;
- all stores except grocery stores selling personal care products, supermarkets, electronics stores.
Where can you walk in Kyiv during the epidemic?
Quarantine in Kiev led to a ban on walking, but many people neglect this ban, since quarantine has been going on for more than a month and, most likely, will not end in the near future, and spending time outdoors is important for maintaining health and boosting immunity.
The government clarified that you can spend time outdoors walking around the house, and visiting parks, forest parks and squares is prohibited. The way out of this situation is to visit the listed places while walking the dog. During the walk, it is necessary to adhere to the rules of social distance - to be at a distance of at least three meters from passers-by.
But if there is no dog, there is no one to take it from, but you want to breathe fresh air and add physical activity to your life, it is best to choose forest plantations and forests at least a little remote from crowded places. In Kyiv, there are enough such places on the left bank, but, unfortunately, it is difficult to get there without your own transport.
You can go out for short walks around the city: for food in a remote supermarket. Plan a walk very early - 6-7 in the morning - or vice versa - late. When walking, you need to observe social distance and safety measures: wear clothes that can be washed when you get home, cover your head and wear a mask or respirator, do not forget your identity documents. Additionally, make a choice between a bag and an eco-bag in favor of an eco-bag that can be washed, wear protective gloves so as not to touch the infection carriers with your bare hands. Be sure to wear a homemade or store-bought antiseptic.
When will quarantine end in Kyiv?
The end date of the quarantine is of interest to all Kyivans, Ukrainians and the whole world. It is hard for graduate students whose universities have been quarantined in Kiev, students of 11 grades of secondary schools who do not know the situation with the upcoming UPE, people involved in the provision of services and left without work.
The quarantine was supposed to end on April 4, but was extended to April 24. The government does not name the exact date for the end of quarantine, but nevertheless, it becomes clear that quarantine measures will not end exactly on April 24. They predict the extension of quarantine until May 12, after which the most severe restrictions will be abolished, but the bulk of the restrictions will last until the end of June.
No official statements have been made in this regard, but such an outcome of events is the most likely. But at any moment, everything can change, since quarantine and its duration directly depend on the dynamics of the incidence, and the dynamics of diseases in Ukraine is compared with Spain, which is now in second place in terms of the number of cases.
Today, quarantine in Kyiv is not a whim, but a necessity to save human lives. Its validity depends on the observance of quarantine measures by each resident of Kyivian. Only by steadily observing them can we stop the spread of the disease and, as a result, end the quarantine.
