Doctor Myasnikov's opinion on the new coronavirus

The latest news from the coronavirus front is that the WHO has announced that the situation is out of control, turning into a pandemic. Prior to this, virologists recognized swine flu as a pandemic, an epidemic that swept the world in 2009. I remember the overcrowded intensive care units, the lack of ventilators, banal masks and oxalinka. The 20th century is the Hong Kong and Asian flu, the Spanish flu, which claimed millions of lives. Now here's the coronavirus. It is interesting what A. Myasnikov thinks about this.

Who is Alexander Myasnikov Alexander Leonidovich

Alexander Leonidovich Myasnikov is known in Russia as the host of medical programs on central television channels.

  1. Few people know that the famous presenter is already 67 years old. Alexander is the successor of the famous medical dynasty of the Myasnikovs. The name of his grandfather - also Alexander Myasnikov - is the Institute of Clinical Cardiology in Moscow. At this institute, the grandson studied in graduate school.
  2. After Myasnikov, Jr. worked as a doctor in Africa, Angola, France and the USA. He was the chief doctor of the Kremlin hospital in Moscow.
  3. Today, the famous doctor runs one of the capital's clinics. His professional interests are therapy and cardiology.

Alexander Leonidovich has earned the love and trust of the audience. People are interested in what Dr. Myasnikov says about the coronavirus.

Doctor Myasnikov's opinion on coronavirus

The world is in a difficult situation. Governments are closing borders, school classes have been canceled, and cheap cereals and toilet paper are being bought en masse. On the program at Solovyov, Alexander Leonidovich gave an explanation of what was happening.

What is COVID?

This is an infectious disease caused by a virus belonging to the corona group. Most scientists believe that the cause is bats. Animals acted as carriers of vibrio in China. The pathogenic strain in wild mice began to stand out more than 10 years ago. With the next mutation, the pathogen became dangerous for humanity. The new disease has a number of features.

  1. The incubation period lasts up to 14 days, in the elderly longer. It is possible to get infected from someone who has no symptoms.
  2. Typical symptoms are high fever and dry cough. At the initial stage, there is no specific treatment. You need to rest and drink plenty of fluids. In 80%, it goes away on its own, in a week and a half.
  3.  Elderly, debilitated, or unfortunate patients develop complications, usually in the form of viral pneumonia and multiple organ failure. Such people will need specialized medical care. She is also symptomatic.

How many hours does it take to confirm the diagnosis?

48 hours in current mode. Now they are testing a different analysis format that will reduce the waiting time to several hours. But so far, the WHO has not officially approved any of the developed tests (information may become outdated within a few days). Until the test results come back, one must suspect that the body is infected and remain in self-isolation, even if there are no symptoms.

The call not to go to the doctor is nonsense

Indeed, stupidity. With dangerous symptoms (difficulty breathing, very high fever, convulsions, etc.), medical attention should be sought immediately.

  1. However, if you have a suspicion of a disease, you should not work with bacteriological weapons, infecting others.
  2. Keep on hand the emergency number that deals with COVID in your area. Call them, let them know about you, your problems and concerns, and follow the instructions.
  3. If you suspect that you have a disease (were in a dangerous region, had contact with someone who was there), do not become murderers, do not drag around “checked” in public transport, do not sit in regular lines, do not use a public toilet with other visitors to institutions.
  4. And yes, in mild cases - and most will have a mild case - the risk of visiting a doctor should always be weighed against the risk of infecting others or infecting yourself by traveling, already sick, to places of mass congestion of potentially infected people.

What Myasnikov says about coronavirus panic

Alexander Leonidovich explained the panic around the coronavirus by a lack of understanding of what is really happening now. You need to know, understand and prepare as much as possible.

How to survive an epidemic

The epidemic is a social problem. The better people understand the danger and its features, the better they are ready to solve the problems that arise. Staying silent and burying your head in the sand is a bad decision. You can talk about the epidemic for hours, but you can explain it in 3 points.

  1. No medicine can save you from an epidemic. An epidemic is a social problem. No carrier - no virus, no contact - no spread.
  2. Quarantine measures are only a matter of time. An organized and effective quarantine, in which we will have to leave at some point for 2 weeks, is the only measure.
  3. The better the organization - i.e. the better prepared we are ourselves and helped prepare others, the sooner it will end.

Is it necessary to urgently stock up on everything, most importantly masks?

Everyone doesn't need to stock up.

Although there may be exceptions.

  1. If you have something that you absolutely cannot live without for 2 weeks, from cat food to blood pressure pills, it probably makes sense to create some stock at home in case of an unexpected quarantine.
  2. Stocking up on surgical masks, especially after standing in line for them, is pretty stupid.

Myasnikov explained why more and more people in the world are talking about panic due to the coronavirus. There is hope that in the summer everything will stop. Viruses like COVID do not like bright sun and heat. Now we need to do everything so that the virus spreads as slowly as possible.
